‘Better version of him in Gabriel Martinelli…’ Arsenal sent transfer message about Ivan Toney’s teammate

Arsenal will be looking to bolster their forward line when the summer transfer window re-opens.

Of course, winning the Premier League title this season will make life easier for the club to get who they want.

But it does seem as though Manchester City, for the fourth time in a row, will become champions of England again.

Either way, talk of Arsenal needing another goalscoring option or someone who can play across the front line has reared its ugly head again.

Bukayo Saka is playing too many games, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz divide opinion, whilst Gabriel Martinelli has gone backwards this season.

But when it was suggested that Arsenal should look towards Brentford to bolster their forward line, Jay Bothroyd was having none of it.

No, not signing Ivan Toney, but his teammate, and someone who is now keeping him out of the XI – Bryan Mbeumo.

Bothroyd added on Twitter that Mbeumo simply doesn’t have the football IQ or the vision to play for the north London side.

From his 21 Premier League games for Brentford, he has eight goals and five assists – and that’s for a team that has been struggling near the bottom.

“No,” responded Bothroyd on the thought of Mbeumo signing for Arsenal. “He’s not an Arsenal player, very effective with his raw attributes and will be for other teams in PL.

“But he doesn’t have the vision, football IQ or technique to play for us. We already have a better version of him in Martinelli.”

Huge week for Arsenal in the Premier League title race

Starting with a home clash against Chelsea on Tuesday night, this is a huge, huge week for Arsenal in the title race.

If they can beat their struggling neighbours, then rock up to Tottenham – like they did last season – and win again, then it would give them huge belief that they can become champions of England.

Yes, it’s in the hands of Manchester City and they are the last team you want to provide the advantage to.

But Arsenal can only concentrate on themselves and morale will be sky high if they get maximum points this week.
