On if he thought their late goal should have stood: "Me and you and everyone in the stadium watching the game. They didn't see a foul on the pitch and then VAR changed the decision of the referee. For me that was a normal challenge. The decision was there and that's it.

"For me it damaged a little bit the Premier League and English [football]. If we want to be the best league in the world it should be protecting the spectacle and the decision. At Wembley for handball was a penalty against Manchester City and the referee didn't check and the VAR didn't advise the referee to see the incident.

"Damaged myself, damaged my team, my players, my fans.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to TNT Sports: "Everyone that was watching the game will feel disappointed.

"Two different things the referee said it was a foul and disallowed the goal and then going to the VAR to confirm.

"The referee is unbelievable and it's ridiculous. It is difficult to accept, these type of things in the semi-final [FA Cup against Man City] two weeks ago it was handball and it was no penalty, the referee he didn't check it.

"It is painful as it has damaged English football and I think Villa players and their fans didn't understand why the goal was disallowed.

"They said it was foul and if you see the challenge what happened if we go into every single challenge like this it is going to be a foul and we wouldn't finish the game with 11 [players].

"We can talk about the performance or the decision - it is damaging the game."

Chelsea's Noni Madueke: "Should it have been three points? Yes. Do I think the goal should have stood? Yes. Nothing else to say about the situation.

"We need to play better at times in phases of the game. We have an abundance of quality and when we fire we're a match for any team. The last game was terrible. For 70 minutes today the team were outstanding.

"It's a process. I'm proud of the team today.

"We beat them here earlier in the season as well. We wanted to come here and win but it wasn't to be."

That draw keeps the door to the top four wide open for Tottenham now.

Spurs are seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with three games in hand.

Tottenham do not have an easy run-in, though. Ange Postecoglou's side host Arsenal on Sunday and they still have to play Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City as well as already relegated Sheffield United and Burnley.

Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers: "We are disappointed. They controlled the game, most of the game.

"We should probably see the game out. We might look back on it as a good point because they're a good team.

"There was a mountain of pressure. They're good players, they're going to score goals.

On Cole Palmer's standard goal celebration: "He definitely copied me. It's my celebration. Check the timeline, I did it first. He's one of my closest friends in life. I couldn't be more proud of him. He's showing everyone what I knew he could do two or three years ago."

Chelsea skipper Conor Gallagher, speaking to TNT Sports: "We are gutted.

"Quite a poor first half, just too slow on the ball. Second half was brilliant and we come back, I felt we should have won the game. I am proud of the lads for their second half performance.

"The gaffer long story short said 'liven up and work harder' like I said the second half was a lot better."

On his goal: "Absolute swinger! I was happy with the goal and disappointed to not get the third.

"We had chances to win and we showed great character. The goal at the end should have counted, but it is not my decision. We can hold our heads high and take a lot of confidence from that.

"We are still on a journey to keep improving and nowhere near where we want to be as a club.

"I try my best and I have so much to improve on as well in every aspect of my game."

It wasn't entirely clear who Craig Pawson had shown those yellow cards to after the full time whistle but it has now been confirmed as Noni Madueke and Benoit Badiashile.

Aston Villa have been one the more difficult teams to play this season, they beat title contenders Arsenal at the Emirates earlier this month and are firmly in the race for a top four spot.

But they were played off the park by a Chelsea tonight.

It'll be interesting to hear the thoughts of Mauricio Pochettino about that goal being ruled out in additional time.

Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher are among those making complaints.

One of Chelsea's coaching staff has comes across to try and drag the players away.

Lucas Digne delivers and Jhon Duran is a yard too high with the header as it lands on the roof of the net.

Now Aston Villa have a corner.

This would be cruel if they grabbed a winner.
