Middlesbrough take on Millwall at The Riverside on Saturday afternoon, and a win could move them up into fourth and in reach of the top two if results go their way.
Here is the predicted Middlesbrough XI for the visit of Millwall this weekend:
GK – Darren Randolph
The Middlesbrough goalkeeper has been outstanding so far this season (minus the blip at home to Aston Villa) and has established himself as the firm number one at the club.
RB – Dael Fry
With Ryan Shotton training this week, he could come in to replace Fry, but the game may come too soon for Shotton.
CB – Danny Batth
Another injury in defence meant Batth deputised for Aden Flint last weekend, and he should keep his place here.
CB – Dani Ayala
Ayala on his day can be one of the best defenders in the league, and should keep his place alongside Batth despite Flint returning to training.
LB – George Friend
There was question marks surrounding Friend at the start of the season, but he has re-found his form and has performed well in recent weeks.
CDM – Adam Clayton
The game can get away from Middlesbrough when Clayton doesn’t play. He mops up in front of the back four and keeps play ticking over.
RCM – Muhamed Besic
Besic had his best game in a Boro shirt against Millwall last season, and will be hoping for a similar performance this weekend.
CM – Lewis Wing
One of Boro’s stand out players in 2019, Wing has cemented himself as a first-team regular now and is one of the most creative players in the squad at present.
LCM – George Saville
Saville has settled well after a difficult first few months on Teesside. He will want to make an impression playing against his old club here.
CAM – Stewart Downing
Many thought Downing couldn’t play week in week out given he is now 34 years old, but he has been a consistent performer throughout the campaign.
ST – Britt Assombalonga
I expect Jordan Hugill to lose his place this weekend. With Assombalonga scoring away at Birmingham, he could replace the on-loan West Ham striker.
