Non-League managerial pair linked with Macclesfield Town vacancy

Daryl McMahon and Darren Currie are the early names being linked with the managerial vacancy at Sky Bet League Two club Macclesfield Town according to The Sun.

The Silkmen are looking for a new boss after former manager Sol Campbell opted to leave the club by mutual consent earlier today.

A number of names are being linked with the role with former Ebbsfleet United manager McMahon and Barnet boss Currie being the two most strongly paired to the club.

McMahon has expressed his desire to return to management after being out of work for the last nine months. The 35-year-old Irishman spent four years in charge of former club Ebbsfleet United, guiding the club to promotion from The National League South in 2016/2017. McMahon has English Football League experience as a player during spells with West Ham United, Torquay United, Port Vale, Leyton Orient and Notts County.

Barnet boss Currie is another name being linked with the role, although the prospect of helping his current club to promotion from The National League may have greater appeal. The 44-year-old has watched on as his Barnet side have collected seven points from four matches so far this season and he is likely to reject any approach from Macclesfield Town in favour of remaining at The Hive.

Macclesfield Town club legend Danny Whitaker is another man who could be considered. After hanging up his boots last month, he would surely be a popular choice amongst fans of The Silkmen.
